Consulting

I help games companies break even, spend less to make and run their games, and make those games use less energy on players' devices and servers.

I've worked in games and technology for 25 years, as a CTO, as VP Technology at Disney Interactive, a producer and an indie game developer. I founded companies including a game engine acquired by Disney, and a marketing platform working with tens of thousands of creators. Today I run Agency, a small studio building a game, a game engine and an online service with AI-assisted development.

Fractional CTO

Part-time technology leadership for studios and publishers that need senior judgment without a full-time hire: architecture, team shape, engines and tools, hosting and running costs. Also for single decisions, such as choosing an engine or platform, rebuilding a system or restructuring a team.

Efficient development with AI agents

For games and other software companies whose spending on AI coding agents grows faster than they can show results. I start with a baseline of what your agents cost, what they deliver and how much energy they use, then work with your team on your codebase so that review keeps up and quality holds. I develop Agency's software this way, with tools we are releasing as open source.

Technology due diligence

For investors and publishers assessing a studio or a game: its codebase, team, technology choices and what it will cost to run.

Efficiency and sustainability

Most of gaming's emissions come from the hardware games are played on and the energy they use there, not from studios. Efficient code, lean servers and smaller downloads cut those emissions and the costs that come with them. I co-founded and chair the Sustainable Games Alliance, a nonprofit cooperative of game companies and associations working on this.
